About EHTN

The aim of the Trust Fund is to provide humanitarian, legal and financial aid to victims of trafficking in persons. As determined by the UN General Assembly, the Fund is to be managed by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) with the advice of the Board of Trustees appointed by the UN Secretary-General. The Board of Trustees is composed of 5 experts with relevant experience in the field of trafficking in persons. The Board is appointed by the UN Secretary-General to serve a three-year term.

Dr. Aleya El Bindari Hammad, a Board Member of EHTN, was nominated to the Board of Trustees of the “United Nations Voluntary Trust Fund for Victims of Trafficking in Persons, especially women and children,” which was officially launched on 4 November 2010. Dr. Hammad is now Chair of the Trust Fund’s Board of Trustees.

The Trust Fund was formally launched at a high level event at the UN Headquarters in New York in the presence of the President of the General Assembly H.E. Joseph Deiss, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, humanitarians Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher, and Pulitzer Prize winning NY Times journalist Nicholas Kristof.

Contributions to the Fund may be accepted from governments, intergovernmental or non-governmental organizations, private-sector organizations and the public at large, in accordance with the United Nations Financial Regulations and Rules. Acceptance of funds from the private sector will be guided by criteria stipulated in the UN Secretary-General's guidelines on cooperation between the UN and Business Community.

Contributions may be accepted in U.S. dollars or any fully convertible currency. Such contributions shall be deposited into the UNODC bank account and recorded under the Fund created for this purpose by the Fund Manager.
