Who are victims

The majority of the victims are women and girls but men are also subject to trafficking. Victims of trafficking usually come from the poor, unemployed and marginalized groups of society although it is not systematic as some victims come from middle class and have even a university background. However, the pervasive lack of respect for the economic, political, and social rights of these vulnerable groups, as well as, the deficiency in the guarantee of their individual security remain the key factors that contribute to human trafficking. Thus, once trafficked, victims fall into a cycle of violence, often living in conditions similar to slavery where their human dignity and basic rights are violated.
